That’s what I’m aiming for when I take on a mountain fitness challenge on May 12th this year.
Pen-Y-Fan is the beast… Well its more of a mini beast as far as mountain expeditions are concerned with a 2,907ft distance in the Brecon Beacons of South Wales.
My friend Darren asked if I’d be up for the challenge, well at first it sounded simple until Darren revealed this is a real challenge…
- We will be aiming to complete the climb 10 times (yea no typo there, only 10)
- Within 24 hours
- Time to buy some new walking boots!!
So what’s 10YFAN about?
The event was launched in 2015 when Steve Western came up with a fundraising idea in aid of 4 year old Harri, who had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. With over 100 people registering the event was very well supported. You can read more about this story as told by Lisa Gallen here
Since the launch, the event has grown in participants year by year raising important funds for www.kidscancercharity.org
Formerly known as The Christian Lewis Trust, this amazing charity supports families, children and teenagers affected by cancer. They are best know for their holiday programme where the aim is to provide memories to last a lifetime!
What an amazing cause!
Pen Y Fan is 2,907 ft and Everest is 29,029 ft, so you could say that if you completed 10YFAN, it’s the equivalent of climbing Everest…
Now that’s a challenge! OK so there’ll be no altitude issues, and hopefully no snow in May but the above statement shows why completing 10 climbs would be such an achievement.
It’s not too late to join me either. The event is for everyone whether you complete all 10 climbs or just come and see what you can do. Register here
You can follow my 10YFAN progress via my social accounts.
See you on the rocks!
